Roots & Recipes: A Celebration of Blackness — Potluck, Talks & Party

Saturday 17th October — Black History Month 🕓 Doors open 4:00pm
This Black History Month, Girls Dem Club is bringing the community together to celebrate Blackness in all its richness through food, culture, conversation, sound and dance.
Everyone is welcome. This is a celebration OF Blackness, open to all who want to celebrate WITH us — so whatever your background, come ready to share in the culture, food, and joy of the day.
🌍 Cultural dress encouraged and this goes for everyone! Wear something that represents your culture and heritage, whatever that may be. All cultures are welcome to show up in their dress and traditions.
🍲 Bring a dish to share, a potluck means we eat together. Bring a dish that means something to you. A family recipe, a taste of home, a piece of your heritage. Let's build a table that reflects the diaspora and beyond.
Your £10 ticket includes:
Welcome drink on arrival
Non-alcoholic beverages flowing all night
A goodie bag to take home
Entertainment — talks, music, and dancing throughout
THE SCHEDULE
4:00pm — Doors open and welcome drinks (sparkling non alcoholic or prosecco - first come, first serve)
5:00pm–7:00pm — Potluck: share food, share stories
6:00pm–7:00pm — Talks: hear from inspiring Black women and Black LGBTQ+ community members doing incredible things
7:00pm–8:30pm — Networking & Party: Afro-Caribbean and Black diaspora sounds take over, dancing welcome!

We want to spotlight Black women and Black LGBTQ+ people doing amazing things in the community. Whether that's business, activism, art, wellness, or something entirely their own. If that's you, or you know someone who should be on our stage, get in touch — we'd love to have you share your story.
